Simon Jordan rips into Premier League ‘stepping stone’ Rangers and Celtic

TalkSPORT co-host Simon Jordan has put Rangers and Celtic on blast, claiming the Scottish giants are now a “stepping stone” for managers to join Premier League clubs.

Jordan made the comments after speaking about links between Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and the vacant Leeds United head coaches role.

The pundit confessed that it’s a “tragedy” for Scottish football that Rangers and Celtic have become managerial feeder clubs but admitted any manager would leap at the chance to move to England from Scotland.

“It’s a stepping stone,” said Jordan live on talkSPORT. (7 February)

“The tragedy for Scottish football is that Celtic and Rangers are now a stepping stone for managers, they are big clubs, big in their leagues and they will go into Europe and do remarkably well like Rangers proved.

“But the first whiff of a grown-up Premier League football club and most of these managers that managed in Scotland leap.”

Stating the obvious?

Of course, a majority of managers would jump at the chance to manage in the Premier League, it’s bigger and better money than what the likes of Rangers and Celtic can offer.

Jordan’s claims that it is a stepping stone, however, seem wide of the mark, especially considering the silverware and European competitions managing Rangers or Celtic can give a manager.

Scottish football will always be playing catch up with the English Premier League, as is every other top football league in Europe right now.

The ludicrous money spent over there is virtually impossible to compete with and unless there is some form of a humungous cash injection in Scotland that will remain the same for a long time.

The Scottish Premiership could learn from the Premier League’s lucrative TV Rights deals though and this is the next step for the league to take to compete on a higher level.

Unfortunately, we all know how the battle to achieve that is going right now and it’s that very dinosaur mindset that is holding Rangers and Scottish football back.
