Richard Foster slams John Lundstram after what he saw in Rangers 2-1 win v St Johnstone

Richard Foster has slammed John Lundstram after he produced a “loose” pass in the first half of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership win over Ross County.

Goals from Borna Barisic and Malik Tillman saw the Light Blues edge a closely contested fixture at Ibrox to keep the pressure on Celtic at the top of the table.

However, Malky Mackay’s side caused the Gers problems and Foster highlighted a poor moment from Lundstram which led to a first-half chance for the visitors.

“It all comes from the shape of the team and the willingness to put pressure on Rangers,” said Foster (BBC Sportscene, 46m 56s, 4 February).

“It’s a loose pass from Lundstram and they pounce on it and I thought in this instance I thought he could have cut it back and I don’t know why Eamonn Brophy doesn’t just hit that.”

Grind it out

Performances have certainly been improving in recent weeks but Rangers are never going to have it all their own way. Ross County made life extremely hard at times and Michael Beale will be delighted that his side managed to earn a valuable three points.

The sign of a good team is to win when the performance levels are slightly down and that’s exactly what the Gers did on Saturday. It’s good to see Beale rotate his squad and utilise the depth he currently has. The injury situation has cleared up somewhat, which has allowed players to remain fresh in recent weeks.

Todd Cantwell was given another start and seems to be enjoying life north of the border. Nicolas Raskin was also given some minutes after finalising his move from Standard Liege on deadline day.

It will be interesting to see how Beale manages the Belgium under-21 international. He’s joined the club with a big reputation and it’s important for the boss to ease him into life at Ibrox. He’s still a young player and learning his craft, which could see the Light Blues’ boss use him from the substitutes bench initially.

In other Rangers news, the club have been handed a potential transfer boost as a World Cup striker linked with an Ibrox switch is likely to be available in the summer.
