Finance Expert: Rangers set to be better off with new Douglas Park partnership
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will be better off by signing a new partnership with Douglas Park’s company, Park Motors at Ibrox.
The Finance Expert admitted that clubs will get a better deal when signing with a partner within the club, rather than an outside company in the same space.
Park will want the club and his company to benefit, but Plumley believes that Rangers are likely to get the better end of the stick after the “enhanced long-term commercial partnership was signed.”
“It’s really tricky,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“There are two sides to this coin, one is that the club should benefit from having that deal because of the links between him and the club, but also, the company side of it would like the best deal possible, so you are striving for that middle ground.

“When we have seen examples of this in the past at other clubs, you still tend to find that the club get a slightly better deal than they would from a partner that is in the same space that there isn’t a connection too. When we’ve seen linked sponsorship deals, they tend to be higher versus those you could command in an open market where there is no link.
“My overall take is based on what we’ve seen in other examples at other clubs is Rangers will be slightly better off with this deal versus another deal is a similar space.”
