Chris Sutton blasts Rangers for favourable VAR decisions in recent games
BT Sport pundit and co-host of Scottish Football Extra Chris Sutton has taken a swipe at Rangers for their recent favourable VAR decisions.
It’s a debate that has taken the Scottish Premiership by storm in recent months with many referees being called out publically for poor decisions.
Sutton claims that Scottish referee Willie Collum melted when faced with a VAR decision that could potentially go against Rangers at Ibrox against St. Johnstone on 28 January.
“VAR has worked well for Rangers, let’s get it right, VAR works well most weekends for Rangers,” said Sutton on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra. (3 February).
“We only have to go as far back as last weekend where Willie Collum went over to the monitor and thinking blimey what should I do here? I think we all know what Willie was going to do and Willie just melts doesn’t he?”

Boring.
Sutton loves to take a jibe at Rangers whenever he gets the chance and he hasn’t backed away here once again in his hatred for the Light Blues.
VAR as a whole has been poor this season and for as many favourable decisions teams have gotten from it, there is plenty of bad ones beside them too.
Every team is in the same boat in this one, despite the belief that the Old Firm giants get the benefit of the doubt on a majority of occasions, even though it has seemed that way.
A lot of this has just been down to poor refereeing, refs bowing down to the noise and fear that massive stadiums like Ibrox can conjure up.
Unfortunately, until rules and regulations surrounding VAR are tidied up or the refereeing standards in the Scottish Premiership get better, not much will change.
Everyone is getting bored of these VAR debates coming up every week, hopefully, things will change sharpish.
