Chris Sutton fumes at Michael Beale comments on Celtic Rangers budget live on BT Sport

Chris Sutton has blasted Michael Beale for his comments on the budget differences at Celtic and Rangers and told him to keep his head down instead of taking swipes.

Beale was quoted recently discussing the difference in budget between the two Old Firm clubs, with Celtic spending far more money than Rangers in recent years since Ange Postecoglou took over.

But responding to those comments live on BT Sport Score (4 February, 15:22), Sutton claimed that the budget difference is because Celtic are “the biggest club in Scotland” and told Beale to stop “having a pop” at Ange Postecoglou.

Rangers

“They’re trying to have a pop at Celtic because they have the biggest budget, but Celtic are the biggest club in Scotland with the biggest fan base.

“I just think with Michael Beale, he’ll eat himself really. He talks a hell of a game.

“Ange Postecoglou has had a brilliant coaching career. I don’t really understand. I think it will be frowned upon within the game when he’s having a pop at a guy who has been a great builder of clubs.

“He should keep his head down as Martin O’Neill did when he first went north of the border. First season, always Rangers were the benchmark. Michael Beale has to back it up.

“I was surprised at his comments, especially after the way he left QPR under a huge cloud.”

Behave

We already know that Sutton likes to say things just for the sake of it for the most part, and this is further evidence of that.

Rangers

Rangers are the biggest club in the country, fact. Rangers have the biggest fan base in Scotland, fact. It’s not hard to find that out.

As for the comments, Beale said nothing wrong. Celtic have spent more in recent years and that is a big reason as to why they’ve managed to move ahead in recent times.

But since Beale’s arrival the two clubs have been neck and neck, and it was Rangers who led the title race before Steven Gerrard left and Van Bronckhorst came in and bottled it.

That shouldn’t be ignored, and Beale is backing his talk with results after 11 wins in his first 12 games as manager of the club. Sutton needs to hush up and be prepared for an epic battle next season when the teams start on a level playing field.
