Chris Sutton explodes at Michael Beale after Rangers and Celtic outbursts
Chris Sutton believes Michael Beale’s comments on Ange Postecoglou’s being a lucky man to coach Celtic had a “lack of class” and raised questions about the Rangers manager and his self-awareness.
The Gers boss sparked somewhat of a frenzy [BBC Sport Scotland, 21 January] after claiming that his Australian counterpart at Celtic Park was fortunate to be able to spend so big in the transfer market.
And while writing his weekly column for the Daily Record (Saturday 4 February, page 66), BT Sport pundit Sutton has lashed out at Beale for his jibe and claims it was an attempt to “belittle” Postecoglou in the Hoops hot seat.

He wrote: “Beale’s also right.
“He’s right the Aussie is lucky to work for a club so well run, and that has a sharp business model to get their finances in top order, that provides a manager who then signs gems to generate profit in sales, and gets into the Champions League to gather even more dough.
“But whether Beale’s lucky jibe was an attempt to belittle Postecoglou’s achievements as a coach or rattle him and Celtic, it smacked of a real lack of class.
“Many managers will have raised eyebrows at Beale’s lack of self-awareness, especially after the way he left QPR.”

Quelle surprise
Here we go again. Sutton’s endless criticism of Rangers football club has seemingly now transferred to their manager, but his opinions are just totally off the mark.
Beale has already come out in the press and clarified his comments weren’t a dig at his Australian rival, so to now question the Englishman’s “lack of class” is a more than questionable move.
Although the Hoops are flying high in the Scottish Premiership right now, perhaps Sutton is feeling the net starting to close around his beloved club as the Gers continue to move from strength to strength under Beale’s guidance.
The close rivals look a little far away for a realistic title push this season, but the 2023/24 campaign should be one hell of a watch, that’s for sure.
With a summer’s worth of recruitment for both sides and another six months working under the 42-year-old at Ibrox, the Gers stand a brilliant chance of adding to their trophy cabinet next season.
In other Rangers news, Michael Beale has delivered the latest update on contract renewals for this deadly duo.
