Chris Sutton and Ally McCoist weigh in on Alfredo Morelos celebration in Rangers clash v Hearts

Chris Sutton and Ally McCoist have weighed in on the debate surrounding Alfredo Morelos’ celebration in Rangers clash v Hearts on 1 February.

Morelos treated Rangers fans to his iconic knee slide after scoring twice against Hearts at Tynecastle, his second included a finger to the lips to hush Hearts fans for their rude chants.

For once, Sutton and McCoist actually agreed on something, with both BT Sport pundits left wowed by the criticism Morelos has faced for his antics, despite Sutton initially joking that Morelos is now a “security risk”.

“Is he not enticing the home support there, what next? Should they ban Alf from Tynecastle stadium? Should he get a stadium ban I don’t know, you can’t be a security risk can you?,” said Sutton jokingly on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra show. (3 February)

“Listen do me a favour, the man’s been getting abused up and down the country, by every set of home fans on the planet, so he slides on his knees after scoring a goal and let’s have a cry Alfy scored, do me a favour, grow up,” replied and infuriated McCoist.

“I got to say, tongue and cheek with what I said, I totally agree with Ally,” agreed Sutton.

“Give the guy a break.”

Rangers

Reinvigorated.

Morelos has looked reinvigorated since the arrival of Michael Beale at Ibrox and may well be handed a new and improved contract if his fine form continues.

10 goal involvements in Beale’s first 10 games in charge of the Gers shows that Morelos is stepping up to the plate for the Englishman, in all the right ways.

His weight is something that has been a topic of debate amongst fans and it was likely the fat-shaming chants from Hearts fans that prompted his celebration.

And rightly so, why shouldn’t Morelos want to stick it to fans who have been hurling abuse all game, it’s something that is part and parcel of the beautiful game.

Morelos finally looks fit and firing again and it’s his appetite for goals not food that should be getting media coverage at this moment in time.

All fans want is to see a Morelos 2.0 thrive and the Colombian is starting to show some of that form that initially captured the hearts of the Ibrox faithful in the first place.
