Rangers official partner slams Scottish media amid Alfredo Morelos Hearts controversy
The Heart and Hand podcast has slammed Scotland’s media for highlighting Alfredo Morelos’ celebration for Rangers during their 3-0 win over Hearts.
Morelos scored twice at Tynecastle, including a second-half finish which was delayed due to a VAR interruption. When he did finally find out that he had hit the back of the net, the Colombian made sure to celebrate in front of the home fans, who had been giving him stick all night.
The celebration has certainly caused a stir, with Neil McCann blasting Morelos for his actions at Tynecastle (Sportsound, relayed by Daily Record, 1 February). The Heart and Hand have since responded and suggested the media should focus on football, rather than Morelos’ actions.
“Michael Beale on Alfie’s celebration: ‘A lot is made of these things in Scotland. That doesn’t tend to happen down south’,” they wrote (Twitter, 2 February).
“Probably because their media doesn’t look for anything, to talk about rather than the actual sport of football.”
Give it, take it
Unfortunately, Hearts’ fans have got to be able to take it from a player if they’ve been consistently dishing it to him all game. In the first half, the Colombian celebrated in front of the home fans and that didn’t seem to be an issue for anyone.
It’s part of the game and it’s something which should just be accepted by the media and not highlighted as much. The 26-year-old is entertaining to watch and a large part of his game involves winding other players and opposition fans up.

From a footballing perspective, the game at Tynecastle was near perfection for Michael Beale and his side. It was easily their most impressive performance under the former QPR boss and will see confidence and expectation levels rise at Ibrox.
What’s more exciting is that Rangers’ January signings weren’t even involved in the first-half domination. Nicolas Raskin was watching on from the stands and Todd Cantwell was introduced for an impressive second-half cameo.
