Tom English shares instant reaction to VAR failure after Rangers incident
BBC writer Tom English has shared his instant reaction to the news that St. Johnstone attacker Nicky Clarke has had his red card against Rangers overturned.
Clarke received a red card in Rangers’ 2-0 win over St. Johnstone on 28 January, something that fans of The Saints claim to have lost them the game.
Now, English has suggested that the incident is “another one” for the referees/VAR file in a sarcastic Twitter reaction to the ongoing issues involving the technology in the Scottish Premiership.
“Another one for the Referees/VAR file,” exclaimed English on Twitter. (1 February, 10:29 AM)
Isn’t this debate just getting a bit boring now? And Rangers always seem to be embroiled in it.

Same old VAR.
When VAR was brought into the Scottish Premiership it was meant to help referees with their decisions and remove any controversies surrounding games.
Nevertheless, it now seems there is more controversy than ever before and VAR always seems to be right in the middle of every bad call debate.
You could write a long old list of the number of dubious decisions VAR has been involved with; Aberdeen’s Ross McCrorie’s handball against the Gers and Celtic forward Jota’s offside goal against Motherwell back in November to name a few.
Too many times decisions go missing and the inconsistent nature of calls from referees has become far too irritating for all those involved in the game.
VAR is far from perfect but it definitely isn’t helped by the poor standard of refereeing in the Scottish Premiership either and that is something that needs to be improved drastically.
Refs shouldn’t be immune to criticism just because there is the blanket of VAR to protect them, questions must be raised and resolutions need to be found, sooner rather than later.
