Ross Wilson forced to move quickly for Nicolas Raskin agreement as Rangers transfer news drops
Ross Wilson was forced to “move quickly” over the weekend to reach a Rangers agreement for Nicolas Raskin due to the emergence of Napoli and Stuttgart as competitors, according to the Daily Record.
The Gers have held a long-standing interest in the Standard Liege midfielder this month, and an agreement was finally reached with the Belgian side to sign the 21-year-old. [DHnet]
The report claimed that a deal for around £1.7million was brokered between the two clubs, but the Daily Record (Tuesday 31 January, page 50) has revealed the club were forced to move quickly to ensure the deal wasn’t hijacked at the final stage.
The report said: “Sporting director Ross Wilson was forced to move quickly over the weekend as the Juniper Pro League side dug their heels in over their financial demands.
“Rangers were reluctant to splash out so much on a player who had just four months remaining on his Standard contract, but the emergence of Stuttgart and Napoli as competition for his signature forces a rethink.”

There have been numerous January transfer deals that have been hijacked at the last second, and it seems that Rangers were close to adding to this list.
After holding an interest in the versatile midfielder’s services all month long and having a duo of bids rejected by the Belgian outfit, it would have come as a sucker punch to be caught napping at the final stage.
If it meant the Gers had dig that little bit deeper into their pockets to get Raskin to complete his move to Ibrox, then so be it, but Michael Beale seemingly has finally got his man.
Raskin is a top talent who still has plenty of room for improvement under Beale and will add much-needed dynamism to the Rangers’ midfield.
Alongside Todd Cantwell, the calibre of players the Englishman is looking for is clear to see. Young players with a high ceiling, who Beale can still mould to fit his style of play.
