Rangers unlikely to sign more players on deadline day with Nicolas Raskin finally announced
Rangers are unlikely to complete any more transfers ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, according to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell.
The Gers announced (31 January) the signing of Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin on a long-term contract after agreeing a deal with the Jupiler League club.
Swansea City forward Morgan Whittaker has been a long-term target of Michael Beale’s, but Campbell has suggested Rangers’ transfer business could now be completed.
“Rangers complete the signing of Nicolas Raskin from Standard Liege. The 21-year-old midfielder joins Todd Cantwell as Michael Beale’s second signing as manager and helps freshen the squad for the remainder of the season,” wrote The Athletic journalist (via Twitter, 31 January).
“Don’t envisage more business being done tonight.”
Good window
Todd Cantwell and Raskin coming through the door at Ibrox marks a good start for Michael Beale in his first transfer window at the club. Whittaker was also an option for the Gers, but it’s good the board didn’t overspend in order to secure his services due to the Championship side’s valuation of the 22-year-old.
Fans will now be desperate to see what Raskin can do when he’s given the chance. The Belgium under-21 international is highly rated and could well transform the Gers’ midfield in the coming years. However, patience will be required. Raskin hasn’t featured much of late due to Standard Liege banishing him to the reserves.

He will take time to bed into his new surroundings and it’s up to Beale to integrate him into the squad effectively. There’s still a long way to go in the 2022/23 campaign and there will be plenty of opportunities for Raskin to show what he’s capable of.
