Rangers could now seal new defender transfer after Nicolas Raskin on deadline day

Rangers are now set to turn their attention to signing a new defender on deadline day after sealing a move for Nicolas Raskin, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper has reported on its back page [print edition, January 31] that a new central option is on the cards before the midnight cut-off point later tonight.

Raskin has not yet been announced by the club but did arrive at Ibrox on Monday 30 January to complete the formalities after a fee was agreed with Standard Liege.

Writing on the back page of the Daily Record on deadline day, Andy Newport shared that the Bears are not done there as they look to strengthen even further.

“Nicolas Raskin last night touched down in Scotland to complete his deadline-day switch to Rangers,” he wrote.

“And Ibrox boss Michael Beale is now set to turn his attention to securing a new centre-back before tonight’s midnight cut-off point after confirming his move for Swansea winger Morgan Whittaker is off.

“Standard Liege midfielder Raskin was met by Gers chiefs after getting into Edinburgh Airport before being whisked along the M8 to Ibrox.”

One Down.

So with Raskin through the door, it looks as though we are not stopping there.

Another central defensive option would certainly go down well given the injury issues there over the past few months, which have been infuriating.

John Souttar, unsurprisingly, has been crocked all season after making that appearance on the opening day against Livingston, with Filip Helander also joining him.

Although back fit now, Connor Goldson has also had his issues, with Ben Davies also struggling at times, leaving Leon King as a young option with a lot of responsibility.

With another new face potentially coming in to crash that party though, it only leads to the fact that someone will be leaving in the summer, with Helander the most likely.

Beale will, of course, evaluate his squad between now and the end of the season to see how his new arrivals affect things, but this is certainly one to watch today.
