Chris Jack shares Jack Whatmough to Rangers update on deadline day amid speculation

Michael Beale hinted that Rangers could be looking to sign a defender in the closing stages of the transfer window but Wigan defender Jack Whatmough won’t be joining Ibrox on the deadline day (31 January), according to Chris Jack.

Writing for Herald Scotland, the reliable journalist has shared that rumours of a potential switch quickly spread on social media on Tuesday (31 January), but he is not a target for the Gers.

The Bears have already signed Todd Cantwell from Norwich City, and they have completed a move for midfielder Nicolas Raskin as well, although the official announcement will be made later in the day.

New addition?

Wigan have signed Martin Kelly from West Brom this month, and Whatmough could be sold to balance the books.

The defence is one area that Gers could be looking to bring in a new player, but the time is running out.

With only a few hours left, it looks really difficult for the club to get a quality defender.

Even if Rangers fail to land one, it will be still regarded as a successful transfer window, and Beale should be very happy with the players he has signed.

Rangers

Cantwell has got experience of playing in the Premier League, and he would be fighting with Ryan Kent and Malik Tillman for a regular starting role.

The 24-year-old lost his way at Norwich in the past 18 months or so, and it is upto him to now to recapture the best form that he showed a few years back.

Likewise, Raskin is a cracking young midfielder who will bring flair and creativity to the middle of the park.

However, it’s the prospect of one more addition that will leave the fans exited until the final minute.
