Chris Sutton reacts to controversy in Rangers v St Johnstone
Chris Sutton believes that it was an interesting decision to hand Rangers a penalty in the first half against St Johnstone on Saturday, 28 January.
Gers took an early lead through James Tavernier’s spot kick, but the decision to award a foul in the penalty was one that divided opinions.
There clearly was a handball in the box, but it did not appear to be the most obvious of shouts ever and was one that could’ve gone either way.
Via Twitter, Sutton wrote, “Rangers penalty award an interesting one.”
Soft
This one where we would begrudgingly agree with Sutton.
It was an interesting one and it’s good to see Rangers benefiting from these sorts of decisions.
There is VAR in place as well and they did not feel that there was enough to rule against the hosts and so the penalty was awarded.

With the red card to Nicky Clark later in the half, St Johnstone were anyway unlikely to come back in the contest so this decision did not really affect the outcome of the game.
It was good to see Glen Kamara getting on the scoresheet and it seems like his future is going to be at Ibrox at least until the end of the season.
New signing Todd Cantwell was also handed a chance to impress in front of the home fans for the first time as Michael Beale decided to name him in the playing eleven.
In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
