Rangers ready to sell Josh McPake, Chesterfield ready permanent move to sign him - Chris Jack

Chesterfield are plotting a move to sign Rangers’ young forward Josh McPake before the January window shuts, according to The Herald.

McPake, 21, has gained some reasonable experience in England making more than 70 appearances in League One and Two while a Gers player and is currently on his sixth loan spell at high-flying Scottish Championship side Queens Park this season.

The 21-year-old was tipped as one of the club’s brightest talents in the past emerging through the youth ranks as a teenager, and now it’s believed the Gers won’t stand in his way if he desires to leave on a permanent deal.

And according to reports from The Herald journalist Christopher Jack, Chesterfield have identified the Ibrox academy product as the man to give their promotion push another boost in the second half of the campaign as they attempt to secure a playoff spot.

And the report goes on to reveal that the Gers are keen to offload the forward before the January window closes on the 31st and won’t stand in his way.

Academy refresh

It certainly seems as though Michael Beale is looking to refresh the club academy moving forward, and it’s important the club moves on players who no longer want to stay at the club.

Despite emerging as a promising player for the future, McPake hasn’t looked likely to break into the first team and a move away from the Ibrox seems like a reasonable next step for the player.

Time is still on McPake’s side to play at the top level and a move to Chesterfield who harbours ambitions to get back into the top four divisions in the country could provide him with the opportunity to develop.

Beale is renowned for his revolutionary work with the youth setup during his short time in management, and it seems as though he desires a clean slate for those he deems worthy of a spot in the academy.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are now fancying their chances of a major January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
