Charlie Nicholas feels there is a 'genuine chance' Ryan Kent signs new deal at Rangers

Charlie Nicholas feels there is a “genuine chance” that Ryan Kent could sign a new deal at Rangers after Michael Beale’s arrival at the club.

Kent has seen his form improve dramatically since Beale returned to Ibrox to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with the team winning nine of ten games.

His current contract at the club is set to expire in the summer and he is free to speak to other clubs about a free transfer, but Nicholas said in his Scottish Daily Express column (24 January) that winning a cup could help convince him too.

“I think there is a genuine chance that Ryan Kent could stay at Rangers,” he said.

“I know his contract talks have been on-going but look at what happened with the Connor Goldson situation. A lot of people thought he was away and then he was announced on a new deal.

“I think Michael Beale can get the best out of Kent again. I know he wasn’t great at the weekend against St Johnstone but he has been much-improved since the new manager came in. He looks like he has got his appetite back and he looks and feels important to the team again.

“I think there is now more of a chance of him remaining at Ibrox than there was before. It will all depend on what else he has on the table but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was to sign a new deal. Winning a trophy or two could also help the Rangers’ cause.”

Positive

Everything has become very positive at Rangers since Beale returned, and getting Kent to sign a new deal should be a priority now.

The forward has shone in his new central role, being given the freedom come off the left wing and create all over the pitch and it has seen his importance to the team grow and his performances improve massively.

Beale has made it very clear that Kent is key to his plans going forward and having him leave for free at the end of the season would be a catastrophic blow to those plans.

A new contract should be made a priority this month to ensure that all speculation can be halted and so Rangers can start planning ahead for the summer knowing where they stand with their star man.

The fact January has been quite quiet around his future means there is definitely a chance for him to stay, and it would be great if we could get it confirmed sooner rather than later.

In other Rangers news, official club partner says Michael Beale “can’t go on” with current players.
