McCann was in the class of quality youngsters coming through along with Nathan Patterson, Alex Lowry and Leon King.

Patterson is now a regular in the Premier League with Everton after getting lots of first-team football, while King and Lowry are on the periphery at Ibrox under Beale.

McCann was slightly behind them and with so many options at the club for his position, it just makes a lot of sense for him to move on and play regularly elsewhere.

If Rangers are smart they’ll put a sell-on clause in any deal to ensure they get good value for their money should be explode with his talent like he very well could, but this makes sense for everyone.

It’s a shame, definitely, because there is nothing like a homegrown talent coming through and shining, but it just wasn’t to be this time with McCann with no sign of him breaking into the side any time soon.
