Rangers transfer announcement updated as club reach ‘complete’ Todd Cantwell agreement
Michael Beale has confirmed Rangers won’t be announcing a new signing before their Scottish Cup fourth-round clash against St Johnstone.
Todd Cantwell is closing in on his move to Ibrox with it being reported that the deal is now done after the Gers came to a “complete agreement” with Norwich (Fourth Official, 20 January).
However, talking in his pre-match press conference, Beale confirmed that no announcement would be made ahead of the game against Callum Davidson’s side on Saturday evening (11 January).
“We are very close with one or two bits in the window. Nothing will be announced before this game, our focus is on this game,” said Beale (Rangers’ official Twitter account, 20 January).
Impressive
Despite Cantwell’s recent form for Norwich, he has previously shown that he is more than capable of playing at the highest level in England. He nearly earnt himself a move to Liverpool in January 2022 and could well take the Scottish Premiership by storm when he does eventually complete his move to Ibrox.
Morgan Whittaker and Nicolas Raskin are also players the new boss is after – and if he can sign both, along with Cantwell, it would have been an impressive transfer window.

The Daily Record (20 January) suggest Rangers are preparing a third bid for Whittaker, with Swansea currently holding out for their valuation of the 22-year-old. RMC journalist Sacha Tavolieri has exclusively told Ibrox News that Stanard Liege are looking for £2.2million and a 20% sell-on clause for Raskin.
The board will have to invest over the course of the next eleven days and if they do it could prove to be an excellent first January for Beale.
