Rangers sign Todd Cantwell from Norwich with more incoming

Todd Cantwell to Rangers is “done” after the club reached “complete agreement” with both the player and Norwich, The 4th Official reports.

The English midfielder was Michael Beale’s primary target for the January transfer window and a deal was thought to be imminent after a fee was agreed with the Carrow Road side on Thursday (19 January).

Both Cantwell and the Gers boss were committed to making the move happen, and now that he is in Glasgow and it has been completed there is also more on the way.

Posting on Twitter on Friday morning (20 January) the online source said: “Todd Cantwell to Rangers is done. Complete agreement with Norwich City and also the player.

“He is someone who was Beale’s first priority (and more incoming) so we will finally slowly get to see Beale creating his own team.”

On Patreon, T4O added: “Cantwell had other options but he made it clear to Norwich that he is only interested in moving to Rangers FC.”

Success

No wonder Beale was so relaxed throughout the pursuit as it appears there was never any real possibility of anything other than getting what he wanted.

Cantwell was headed for the exit and Norwich sooner or later, and the club had turned down at least one bid from a Championship rival to keep him from remaining in the division, so Ibrox made sense from their perspective.

Now that is appears Cantwell only had eyes for Glasgow as well then it was simply a matter of time before the deal got done.

It may have taken almost three weeks of the transfer window but both sides have got there in the end, and thankfully for Rangers fans there haven’t been failures on the pitch in the mean time which the 24-year-old could have contributed to.

He is sure to be involved pretty quickly once he is announced, with Beale not interested in signing players for his bench, so it shouldn’t be long now before supporters get to see the first signing under the former QPR boss in action.

It is no great surprise that Cantwell is through the doors so attentions will now turn to the “more incoming” as the Ibrox boss looks imprint his vision on the squad.

What money and which targets are available could go a long way to determining what success is possible this season, with the cups still on offer despite the gap to the top of the table.

In other Rangers news, Fabrizio Romano’s bid update on another club target has been disputed by another report.
