Charlie Miller baffled by Scott Arfield as Rangers transfer verdict shared

Charlie Miller is surprised to see Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield isn’t playing regularly under Michael Beale this season.

Speaking to Football Scotland, the former Gers player has suggested that Arfield, 34, is a “great servant” for the club, but he has started just once since Beale took over the reins.

Rangers are reportedly looking to sign Todd Cantwell this month [Sky Sports], but Miller feels the club need players in all positions at the moment.

“Arfield has been a great servant, I would still be playing him, to be honest with you,” said Miller.

“He’s a great player and gets beyond which players don’t do as much anymore. I don’t know if something has happened there but he doesn’t seem to be in Michael Beale’s plans that much at the moment.

“I just feel he should be more involved. Beale will know better than me, though, so I’ll let him decide that and we’ll just judge him on that.

“I think they need to strengthen in all areas. Obviously, it doesn’t look like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos are going to sign and we’re obviously needing wide men, strikers, and midfielders… we need players for all positions to be honest with you.

“We maybe don’t have to sign any centre-backs if we get everyone back, but at the moment, we definitely need defenders. I’d probably say we need signings all over the park.”

Beale plans

At the moment, it doesn’t look like Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are going to leave the club.

With less than two weeks remaining in the January window, the Bears are yet to receive any substantial offer for either of the players.

It can change, however, but it appears that they are likely to continue for the rest of the season. Now, whether Beale can persuade them to sign new deals remains to be seen.

Miller is probably right that Rangers need to shake up their squad and signings are needed in every position.

Allan McGregor needs to be replaced and Rangers must look to sign a quality goalkeeper in the summer. In defence, Filip Helander is likely to leave in the summer, and the club should look to bring in another quality centre-back.

In midfield, Steven Davis and Arfield need to be replaced while Ryan Jack could leave the club as well. So, the summer window is going to be massive for the club, but there probably won’t be too many signings this month.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to sign this “World Cup star” in January.
