Swansea confirm Rangers bid to sign Morgan Whittaker, Welsh club responds – BBC Sport

Swansea City manager Russell Martin has confirmed Rangers have had a bid rejected for 22-year-old attacking midfielder Morgan Whittaker.

BBC Sport report (18 January) that Rangers are currently well short of the asking price which has been set by Swansea’s American owners.

However, it’s understood an agreement could still be reached between the two clubs before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month. When asked about the bid for Whittaker, Martin revealed it was Rangers who had made the effort to sign the 22-year-old.

“We have rejected an offer from them [Rangers], that’s it,” said the Swansea boss (BBC Sport, 18 January).

Blow

This will come as a blow to Michael Beale and the board at Ibrox but it’s clear Swansea are holding out for a specific price when it comes to Whittaker. The 22-year-old has been impressive in the first half of the season for Plymouth Argyle and the American-owned Swans are clearly wanting to make the most of the Light Blues’ interest.

Rangers will more than likely come back in for the attacker, with Beale clearly a fan of the youngster. Whittaker would demonstrate a clear transfer plan from the new boss. He seems eager to bring a more youthful mould of player to Ibrox, with there currently a number of older heads at the club.

This looks like a move which certainly has some traction and Gers’ fans will be hoping the two clubs can come to some sort of agreement before the January window slams shut in 13 days’ time.

The Light Blues are yet to make an addition but it does feel like a number of players are in the pipeline and only a matter of time before Beale makes his first signing since returning to Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to sign this “World Cup star” in January.
