Rangers deal to sign Todd Cantwell ‘essentially done’, could be confirmed within days

Rangers have reached an agreement to sign Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell, and the deal is “essentially done”, as reported by The 4th official.

Writing on Patreon [17 January], the reliable Ibrox source report that Norwich have reached an agreement to sign the 24-year-old midfielder, and reaching personal agreements with the player won’t be a big issue.

The Bears are likely to complete his signature by the end of this week.

“From what I understand Todd Cantwell to Rangers is essentially done,” wrote The 4th official.

“Norwich City have agreed a fee with Rangers. More importantly, the agreement between the player and Rangers is not expected to be a problem.

“I would be surprised if this is not wrapped up by the end of this week.”

Superb

Cantwell will be a terrific addition to the club and he will become the first signing under the Michael Beale era.

The Norwich City midfielder progressed from the academy levels at Carrow Road and has made over 125 appearances for the club.

He was particularly impressive from 2019-2021 when he scored 13 goals across two seasons.

Cantwell showed his class in the Premier League for Norwich and at one point it felt like he would move to a big Premier League club.

Rangers

However, he has dropped down the pecking order at the club, and doesn’t feature in the manager’s plans.

With his contract set to expire in the summer, the Canaries have decided to part ways with him.

Rangers have done a terrific piece of business here. Cantwell, obviously, has got loads of talent and he probably needed a change of scenery to recapture his best form.

Beale probably will use him as an attacking midfielder. He can really fill the void left by Joe Aribo if he fulfills his potential at the club.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to sign this “World Cup star” in January.
