Joe Gelhardt Leeds United exit could lead to quickfire Rangers move for Morgan Whittaker
Rangers are yet to kickstart their January transfer business yet, however, it does feel like a number of potential deals are being lined up by Michael Beale.
Todd Cantwell is a player who has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox and Football Scotland have even suggested the 24-year-old could arrive in Glasgow to finalise his move from Norwich (16 January).
Cantwell isn’t the only attacking midfielder the Gers have been linked with recently. Swansea City’s Morgan Whittaker is the latest player to attract the attention of Beale, with the Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano suggesting (via Twitter, 17 January) the Light Blues have submitted a bid for the 22-year-old attacker and that talks are ongoing.
Whittaker enjoyed a stunning first half of the season for League One leaders Plymouth Argyle, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists.
However, there are certainly some stumbling blocks when it comes to Rangers’ move for the 22-year-old. The Daily Record have suggested (16 January) that Russell Martin is keen for the attacking midfielder to remain in South Wales.
Although, if Swansea can lad another attack-minded player in the January window, they could potentially be inclined to let the young Englishman depart the club. One player the Swans are chasing is out-of-favour Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt (Yorkshire Evening Post, 16 January).

The 20-year-old has endured a tough campaign for the Whites and has failed to break into Jesse Marsch’s plans at Elland Road. It’s understood Leeds chief Victor Orta is an admirer of the South Wales club which could lead to Gelhardt heading to Martin’s side.
If Swansea do land the highly-rated Leeds United attacker then it could well see Martin sanction Whittaker’s move to Ibrox, with the 22-year-old eager to make the move north of the border.
It may take the market to develop slightly, but this could well be a move which progresses quickly.
In other Rangers news, an Ibrox-linked player would love a reunion with a current Light Blues star.
