Graham Spiers reacts to Rangers footage v Aberdeen as Anthony Stewart gets red card

Graham Spiers could not believe his eyes as Aberdeen captain Anthony Stewart was sent off for a ridiculous challenge on Rangers attacker Fashion Sakala.

The Bears went on to win the ViaPlay semi-final 2-1 after Kemar Roofe fired home in extra-time at Hampden Park, taking advantage of the extra man.

Spiers insisted it was “abysmal conduct” with Nick Walsh on the spot to hand Stewart his marching orders as Sakala thankfully avoided a serious injury.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Spiers simply could not believe what he was seeing as footage of the incident continued to do the rounds on social media.

“I’m not the first to ask: what the hell was Aberdeen’s Anthony Stewart thinking? ” he wrote.

“And from a captain, with the game on a knife-edge? A straight red. Abysmal conduct.”

Shocking.

Not enough has been made of this horrendous tackle by Stewart.

After he couldn’t help but open his mouth and take a dig at Alfredo Morelos earlier in the week, it all came crumbling down for him as he let his team down at Hampden.

Thankfully, Roofe was on hand to guide the winner home with Sakala still on the pitch unharmed which saw him celebrate wildly with his teammates.

Michael Beale was not happy with the state of the pitch at Hampden Park, but this challenge will have infuriated him even further, especially with the numerous injury worries already at the club.

Hopefully, by the time the final comes around, Beale will have players back from injury and new signings on board, with transfer talk intensifying at Ibrox this week.

Aberdeen fans and others alike will be scratching their heads at Stewart, but Rangers will simply thank his loss of control and skip along to the final with joy.

Bring it on.
