Chris Sutton: Ryan Kent will be very lucky to escape action after Rangers incident v Aberdeen

Chris Sutton has insisted that Rangers star Ryan Kent will be very lucky to escape retrospective action after the 2-1 win over Aberdeen in the ViaPlay Cup semi-final.

The Englishman appeared to lash out at Liam Scales in an off-the-ball altercation at Hampden Park, although VAR was down during the incident happening.

Sutton was quick to comment on the incident, which could lead to action from the SFA this week as Michael Beale faces a nervous wait over his star man.

Writing on his personal Twitter account early on Monday 16 January, Sutton singled out that one incident in what is no surprise whatsoever.

“VAR didn’t work as it should north or south of the border at the weekend,” he wrote.

“Ryan Kent will be very lucky to escape retrospective action for lashing out at Liam Scales though.”

Lucky?

Looking at the footage from the incident, it looks as though some bad news could be on the way.

This isn’t the first time that Kent has taken things into his own hands, literally, as he gets frustrated with developments on the pitch.

The attacker is big enough and smart enough to know that this is not the way to go, and he can have no one to blame should he pick up a fine, or even worst, a ban.

Beale is looking to strengthen his squad and attacking options in the January transfer window, so he may get that much-needed cover soon, but that is still not acceptable.

Scales may have made a big meal out of it, which is also likely, but it is infuriating that we are having to deal with a situation such as this yet again.

Kent has still not signed a new contract at Ibrox, and if this is his final six months at the club, it would be a real shame if parts of that were him serving a ban.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to sign this “World Cup star” in January.
