BBC pundit slaughters ‘horrific’ Borna Barisic in Rangers v Aberdeen

BBC pundit Neil McCann slaughtered Borna Barisic after Rangers conceded the opening goal in their Scottish League Cup clash against Aberdeen at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Bojan Miovski guided a cushioned finish past Alan McGregor after Barisic was caught sleeping by Dons winger Matty Kennedy in a tragic piece of defending.

McCann admitted that the lead-up to Mioviski’s goal was a “horrific” bit of defending from the Croatian, claiming he was in a much better position than Kennedy.

“What a finish and what a ball. Kennedy’s run is even better. His desire – he recognises that Miovski is offside,” said McCann on BBC Radio Scotland (15 January, 03:48pm).

“It’s horrific from Barisic I’ve got to say because he’s in a much better position, but he doesn’t switch on or identify that Kennedy is going to race for it.

“Full marks to Aberdeen, but that’s a brilliant goal made by Kennedy and a lovely cushioned finish by Miovski.”

Devine intervention.

Adam Devine was utilised in the left-back position when Barisic was away on FIFA World Cup duties with Croatia and shined brightly for Michael Beale.

The 19-year-old is a hell of a player and maybe this latest error of judgment from Barisic will lead to the youngster getting more game time.

Devine, however, is a natural right-back but this isn’t something you could have told when he featured for the Gers on the opposite flank.

He was particularly good in the hard-fought win against Ross County on 23 December where he looked like a constant threat moving forward.

Rangers will want to avoid a similar situation occurring like that of Nathan Patterson with Devine and the teenager could look for football elsewhere if Beale doesn’t play him.

Time will tell if Beale starts to use Devine more often in his starting XI but this latest mistake by Barisic may be the golden ticket towards more opportunities.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to sign this “World Cup star” in January.
