Rangers transfer news as Todd Cantwell sources break silence in January window
Rangers are among the “frontrunners” to sign Norwich City playmaker Todd Cantwell in the January transfer window, according to Record Sport.
The 24-year-old’s contract at Carrow Road expires in the summer, and sources close to the player have insisted that the interest goes both ways with the player fancying the switch.
Former England Under-21 international Cantwell was confirmed to be on a shortlist of Rangers transfer targets by Michael Beale after last week’s 2-0 win against Dundee United (Sunday 8 January).

The Daily Record (14 January, page 60) believes that the Norwich midfielder has reciprocated the interest shown in him by the Gers and sees the Scottish giants as one of his preferred destinations.
The report said: “And sources close to Cantwell’s camp confirmed to Record Sport that the feeling is mutual with Rangers among the frontrunners to secure his signature this month.”

Lack of form
Overall there are more positives to the signing of Cantwell than negatives, but the Gers must be careful nonetheless that the 24-year-old can’t replicate his stellar form from years gone by.
After breaking onto the scene as a teenager in the Premier League, Cantwell was touted with a move to a top-six in the early stages of his career. However, after failing to secure this lucrative transfer, the playmaker has gone from bad to worse in the Championship.
He has fallen so badly out of favour at Carrow Road that he has featured just once from the bench since November, and Beale must be careful Cantwell has the can-do attitude to reverse his fortunes.
There are shades of Dele Alli in the way Cantwell has started his career, and moving to a huge club such as Rangers will only increase the pressure on his young shoulders. Whether he can step up and reignite his career is questionable, but he is surely still worth the punt if the Gers can snap him up for a modest fee.
