Rangers transfer reveal as Todd Cantwell looks to edge closer to Ibrox with Beale and Wilson busy

Rangers look to be “edging ever closer” to completing the transfer of Todd Cantwell after Michael Beale admitted he and Ross Wilson had been very busy recently, according to the Scottish Daily Express.

Beale is looking to add fresh faces to his squad in his first transfer window in charge at Ibrox since taking the reigns from Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and he named Cantwell as one of his side’s targets after their 2-0 win over Dundee United (Sunday 8 January).

The Norwich City playmaker is out of contract in June and seems to have fallen out of favour at Carrow Road, featuring just once off the bench since 12 November.

The Scottish Daily Express reported: “It looks like Cantwell is edging ever close to a move to Glasgow, after Canaries boss David Wagner revealed talks were ongoing with another club and Beale added to this by claiming that he and Sporting Director Ross Wilson have been ‘very busy’ recently.”

Get it done

Cantwell has the quality to be a real hit at the Rangers and, under Beale, could reignite his stalling career.

The 24-year-old burst onto the scene for the Canaries as a flamboyant teenager and took the Premier League by storm in the 2019/20 seasons, scoring six goals and providing two assists in Daniel Farke’s side.

Since then, the versatile midfielder has struggled to impact proceedings in the southeast, but his ability is still undoubted when played in the correct position.

Cantwell could add an injection of pace and power that the Gers are otherwise missing. His ability to pick the ball up deep and travel with the ball in tight areas is a brilliant asset to possess, and playing in an advanced midfield position ahead of the likes of John Lundstram seems a likely prospect.

For a modest price and offering a fresh opportunity for the player, this seems a win-win situation for both parties if a deal can be brokered.
