Michael Beale confident of Rangers transfers soon in January as Todd Cantwell addressed – Chris Jack

Rangers are confident of securing their first January signing in the coming days, according to journalist Chris Jack after Michael Beale’s latest comments.

The bears have been linked with a move for Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell in recent weeks, with some suggestions a deal is close to being completed.

And after Beale admitted during his pre-match presser ahead of the Aberdeen cup semi-final that speculation “wasn’t far off”, Jack wrote (13 January) for the Herald Scotland that there was confidence it could be done soon.

“Michael Beale is confident he will land his first January deals in the coming days as he teased the prospect of Todd Cantwell arriving at Ibrox.”

Lovely

One thing Rangers have lacked in recent times is strength in depth, and Cantwell is exactly that type of signing that we have lacked.

Cantwell was the stand out performer for Norwich in the Premier League a few seasons ago but has fallen away in recent years and needs a fresh environment to get back on track.

He is only 24-years-old and with Beale’s comments about wanting the right characters at the club, it’s clear this is a player that he believes in and feels can make a difference in the immediate future.

Rangers want to complete several deals in the coming weeks, but with Cantwell close to being done now seemingly it seems as though they can begin to move on to other targets too.

Fans aren’t 100% convinced that Cantwell will make a great deal of difference, but if he can rediscover his form under Beale then we will have one hell of a player at Ibrox for a minimal fee. Win-win.
