Door open for Rangers to secure Todd Cantwell signing after David Wagner admission

Norwich City winger Todd Cantwell is “speaking” to other clubs at the moment and the door is now left open for him to join Rangers.

David Wagner has made it clear that Cantwell is not a part of his plans at the moment, and the club are preparing for his departure in the January window.

Rangers are hot on heels to sign the 24-year-old with Fourth Official reporting on 9 January that the Gers are in advanced talks to sign him.

“It’s no secret. He isn’t part of the plans moving forwards. He is speaking to clubs. It would not be right at this point to be involved,” said Wagner, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Michael Beale is an admirer of the player’s talent and it remains to be seen if he can bring him to Ibrox in the next few days.

Cantwell has dropped down the pecking order at the club, and his manager has made it clear that he is heading for the exit.

The home-grown Norwich winger dazzled for the Canaries when they were in the Premier League, where he netted seven goals in 2019-20.

His career has taken a downhill trajectory in recent years, but a change in scenery could spark new life into his game. There’s no doubt about his talent and he should be a top-quality signing for the Bears.

He has got loads of experience and can play in multiple positions. Cantwell has his limitations though. He is not the type of player who would track back a lot and make tackles and put in defensive shifts.

On the other hand, he is someone who has an eye for killer passes, and who can create a goal out of nothing. He has always performed when the fans are behind him, and that’s why he should thrive at Ibrox, where fans can create an electrifying atmosphere.

The door is open for Rangers to get the deal done, and let’s hope the club can bring him to Ibrox in the next few days.

In other Rangers news, a bid has been rejected as the Gers chase another target who appears to be headed straight towards the exit door, according to Sky Sports.
