Rangers transfer news drops ahead of Hampden Park showdown v Aberdeen
Rangers are “highly unlikely” to complete any transfers before Michael Beale’s side faces Aberdeen in the ViaPlay Cup semi-final (Sunday 15 January), according to Football Scotland.
The Gers have been heavily linked with moves for Todd Cantwell and Everton outcast Tom Davies in the winter window and subsequently had a £1.5million bid for the Norwich City attacker rejected on Wednesday (11 January).
Beale is looking to stamp his image on the first team in his first window since taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox, but Football Scotland believes no new signings will be made in time for the crucial trip to Hampden Park.

The report said: “Michael Beale is aiming to add a couple of new faces to his squad this season.
“Todd Cantwell and Tom Davies have been linked with moves to Ibrox during the January transfer window and Beale namechecked both English midfielders after the 2-0 win over Dundee United.
“It’s highly unlikely that any new faces will be in the door before Sunday’s Viaplay Cup semi-final against Aberdeen on Sunday.”

Careful
In the big picture, not securing the signings of Cantwell or Davies this week isn’t an issue, but the Gers will hope they won’t be dragged into a transfer saga that lasts the majority of the window.
Beale will hope the club can get either signing completed quickly and for a modest price tag so he can start to shape the squad to his particular needs.
Cantwell is clearly a man in high demand, but a move to Ibrox could be the perfect opportunity to reignite his faltering career.
When at his best, the Canaries ace is a Premier League calibre player and is more than capable of walking into this Rangers side and making a huge impact. He would add positivity and an energy that is otherwise missing from the Gers’ midfield.
Beale seems the exact manager that Cantwell could thrive under, but the Scottish club must be wary they aren’t drawn into a transfer action for the player, who is likely to draw interest from club’s across England.
