Rangers progress with Todd Cantwell deal as Ibrox transfer news emerges
Talks between Rangers and Norwich City surrounding a January transfer for midfielder Todd Cantwell have “progressed”, according to Football Scotland.
Michael Beale is looking to add depth to his Gers squad in his first transfer window since taking the reins at Ibrox, and he named Cantwell as one of his prime targets following the 2-0 win over Dundee United (Sunday 8 January).
According to Fourth Official (9 January), Rangers are convinced they can broker a deal for the versatile Canaries ace and are in advanced talks to secure his services.

Football Scotland reported that these talks had progressed between the two parties on Thursday afternoon (12 January) and that Blackburn Rovers had a bid rejected for the 24-year-old.
“Todd Cantwell’s discussions about a move to Rangers have progressed,” Mark Hendry reported.
“Football Scotland understands talks are ongoing between player and clubs as the Ibrox outfit look to bring him to Glasgow. We told how Blackburn had a bid turfed out for the 24-year-old but Gers are still working on it.”

Bid inbound
Cantwell would be an exciting prospect for Rangers fans if he moved north of the border and he could thrive under Beale at Ibrox.
He’s quick on his feet, nimble on the ball, and able to carry possession into the final third with skill and pace – something that Rangers have lacked so far this season.
You could argue Ryan Kent is similar in that regard, but Cantwell has the ability to play a little deeper if required, and his forward running is useful in driving a team forward and getting men up the pitch when in a low block.
Beale has said he wants January signings, and Ross Wilson would be foolish to ignore the Englishman’s cry for the 24-year-old after the win against Dundee.
Wilson said he would give Beale the say on personnel brought into the club, and now it is time to see if he will stick to his promise.
Gers fans will hope the club can get the deal over with minimal fuss and avoid getting embroiled in a transfer auction with the likes of Blackburn Rovers.
