Gary Holt backs ‘exceptional’ Todd Cantwell to shine for Rangers

Norwich City winger Todd Cantwell will be “outstanding” for Rangers, as suggested by Scottish football coach Gary Holt.

Speaking to Daily Record, Holt, who worked with Cantwell at academy levels at Norwich City, has shared that Cantwell is an “exceptional” talent and a move to Ibrox would be perfect as his next destination.

Rangers are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Cantwell [Fourth Official,9 January], but he is also available to sign a pre-contract with the Bears this month.

“He wasn’t out and out number nine but he could play up there because he has an eye for goal. He’s always had exceptional talent and it’s pleasing to see how he’s grown into a young man,” said Holt to Daily Record.

“I hate tagging players but he’s a luxury player, one of those luxury players at the top end of the pitch who if you give him the ball he will create goals out of nothing. He’d be outstanding at home for Rangers. The big stage, the big crowd. That’s his element.

“Rangers fans will love him because of what he can do. Give him the ball and he’ll create for you. Michael knows what he’d be getting.”

Smart addition

The Bears have the option to secure a pre-agreement contract with him now. Alternatively, they can sign him permanently now, but will have to pay a handsome fee.

The Sun reported on 11 January that David Wagner is looking to sanction Cantwell’s exit in January as he wants to bring in new faces.

However, the Canaries are not looking to let him go on the cheap. They have rejected a £1.5million bid from Blackburn Rovers already, which means the Gers will have to pay a bit more to sign the 24-year-old.

Rangers

Cantwell is clearly a man in demand and Rangers could miss out on him if they don’t move now. After spending long years at Carrow Road, he should look to move elsewhere, as his career has taken a downward turn in recent years.

He needs fresh challenges and a move to Rangers would have been ideal. His best performance for Norwich have come when they were in the Premier League, so definitely, he has got loads of quality.

In other Rangers news, a bid has been rejected as the Gers chase another target who appears to be headed straight towards the exit door, according to Sky Sports.
