Tam McManus tips ‘stand out’ Rangers man to quit Ibrox for new SPFL role
Tam McManus has tipped John Park to leave Rangers and join Hibernian as their new director of football as the Easter Road side look to fill the position.
Park spent nine years at Celtic where he helped identify players including Virgil Van Dijk and has most recently worked at Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
McManus has suggested Park is the “stand out” candidate to take the role at Easter Road.
“They’ve come to the conclusion that they need a director of football and there’s a lot of names which have been banded about but for me, there’s one stand out and that’s John Park,” said McManus (PLZ Soccer, 11 January).
“I know John Park well and I don’t know if he’s interested in the job but in terms of recruitment and he knows the club and Hibs. He ticks a lot of boxes.”
Interesting
Scouts often move from job to job fairly regularly so it’s not a surprise to see McManus tipping Park to take a director of football role at Hibernian. The Easter Road side have endured a tough season and the board are probably trying to implement a more long-term project at the club.
From a Rangers perspective it probably won’t be a huge loss. Michael Beale will have his eyes on a number of transfer targets and the loss of a scout won’t impact on who the Rangers boss wants to bring to the club. The January window promises to be the start of Beale really stamping his authority at Ibrox.

Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell has been linked with a move north of the border, with the 24-year-old looking like the ideal mould of player for the Rangers boss to develop.
With the January window nearing the half way point it’s certainly time for the club to firm up their interest in some of their targets and look to bring a couple of players through the door at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
