Mainz pull out of transfer race to sign Rangers and Celtic target Cho Gue-sung
Mainz have reportedly pulled the plug on their pursuit of Rangers and Celtic target Cho Gue-sung in the January transfer window.
According to Football Scotland [10 December], Celtic have outbid the German side in order to get closer to signing the Jeonbuk striker.
Rangers are also keen on signing the 24-year-old but are yet to submit a bid for the South Korea international.

Battle heats up
If Rangers are serious about signing the striker then they have to at least begin talks with the club or his representatives.
Celtic have already bid and if they talk to him before Gers do, they will obviously prove to be a better prospect.
They’re the defending champions and hold a sizeable lead in the SPFL, so Ross Wilson cannot afford to take the back seat on his one.

The only good reason why they’re not entering a transfer battle with Celtic could be because they have someone better already lined up.
It also remains to be seen where Alfredo Morelos ends up come February as his future remains up in the air as things stand.
However, if Michael Beale does convince the Colombian to stay and sign a new deal, then Rangers may not even need to sign a new striker so that makes any links to Gue-sung or any other striker for that matter, redundant for the time being.
In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
