BBC pundit suggests ‘daft’ Rangers bid to sign Kevin Nisbet as £10m transfer verdict shared
BBC Pundit Kevin Kyle has urged Rangers to consider a “daft bid” to sign Hibernian’s in-form striker Kevin Nisbet this month – suggesting he could score more goals playing for Michael Beale’s side.
The 25-year-old striker was every bit clinical bagging a stunning hattrick against Motherwell at Fir Park, ending the club’s dreadful run of six consecutive away defeats in the Scottish Premiership.
In fact, since his return from a nine-month knee injury lay-off, he’s instantly become the club’s joint-top goalscorer this season, scoring five goals from five games. He could be the man to revive Hibernian’s season, but not if Beale’s Rangers come calling.

Speaking to Open Goal [10 January], Kyle was discussing who the Light Blues could bring in to strengthen their squad this month suggesting the club take a look at Nisbet – and that he could score more goals at Ibrox with the players around him.
He said:
“The chances Rangers go and spend £5m, £10m on a striker is going to be slim. Nisbet has come back in, I’m not trying to take him away from Hibs. But the boy is a goalscorer, that’s evident. Rangers create chances.
“He looks like he has come back [from injury] in far greater nick than he ever was. Leaner, meaner. Is he worth Rangers making a daft bid for?”
Consider it
Considering Nibet’s age, striker profile and potential the 25-year-old could well turn out to be a superb pick-up for the Gers this month. It’s a move which the club must consider but also one which makes a lot of sense.
Despite Antonio Colak’s stunning record of 11 goals in 15 games for the club so far this campaign, there are still doubts about his suitability to Beale’s style at Ibrox. Colombian Alfredo Morelos has so far proven inconsistent this season, and there are also doubts about his fitness levels.

Nisbet may be the ideal profile for Beale to build his exciting team around. The 10-time Scottish international holds great knowledge of the Scottish Premiership, arguably more than Morelos and Colak. But more crucially, he fits Beale’s ideal preference for a striker.
One who could drop deep, link up the play with the creative outlets behind them, form chances for his teammates but more importantly, score goals at a potent and consistent rate. Also, Kyle is very accurate. The forward could well hit more goals linking up with the likes of Max Tillman, Fashion Sakala and Ryan Kent.
Nisbet is excellent technically, great in the air and a fox in the box. At the age of 25, he’s still yet to reach his peak which will allow him the perfect platform to mature and develop into one of the division’s best forwards if he isn’t considered one already.
£5m-£10 for his services could be seen as an absolute snip as he is indeed a player for the future.
