Rangers: Update on bid to sign Gue-sung Cho ahead of Celtic as reveal emerges from two sources
Rangers have made no bids for South Korean international striker Gue-sung Cho from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, despite the player being on their list of targets this month, according to The Fourth Official.
According to Sky Sports [10 January], Celtic are holding talks with the South Korean club’s sporting director Ji-Sung Park after making a bid of around £3m, with Rangers, also understood to be interested in the forward.
Several other clubs have made their interest known also, with German Bundesliga outfit Mainz also having submitted a similar bid for Cho this month.

However, according to the respected online source, The Fourth Official [10 January], the Gers have not made any bids for the striker, despite him being on their list of targets. It is unclear whether the club will make any move for the South Korean World Cup star.
They said: “Now, a lot of you asked about Gue-Sung Cho and whether Rangers are indeed going head to head with Celtic to secure his signature? As many of you know Celtic have already put in a £3m bid for the player (according to Sky). But according to two sources I talked with, no bids have been made. The striker was on the list of targets but that doesn’t really mean much by itself.
“Honestly, it is difficult to gauge whether Rangers are currently pursuing him or if he was just another name on a list of 10-12 forwards.”
Opportunity missed?
If reports regarding Celtic’s proposed move for Cho are indeed true, then it could well be seen as an opportunity missed by the Gers this month.
While they’re rivals are continuously and actively pursuing targets this month, Rangers’ business so far will not have many fans impressed, especially with the club sitting nine points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership table.

If there was any better time for the club to back boss Michael Beale with signings in order to boost morale and refresh the squad at his this disposal, then it is certainly now.
Coming off the back of a decent World Cup with South Korea, where he bagged two goals in four games, the striker could well represent an intriguing pick-up for Rangers, and a chance to boost their attacking personnel in order to match their rivals.
However, with the line for the striker’s services packed, it may seem that the Gers are turning their attention elsewhere in the transfer market.
Though, fans will be hoping the club recruits players capable of providing Beale with the quality to topple their rivals both in the present and in future.
In other Rangers news, Gers have bid rejected for out-of-favour forward target, according to Sky Sports.
