Norwich open to offers for Rangers target Todd Cantwell after bid rejected – Sky Sports

Norwich have rejected an offer from the English Championship for Rangers target Todd Cantwell, according to an update from Sky Sports.

The out-of-favour midfielder hasn’t featured in the past five Canaries league games, and didn’t even make the bench for four, so looks to be on the way out of Carrow Road.

And Sky Sports now report that the club are prepared to listen to offers now for the 24-year-old who is out of contract in the summer.

However, it is claimed that despite definite interest from the Light Blues they are yet to make a formal offer for him, although Michael Beale has publicly admitted that he likes the player [via Glasgow Live, 9 January].

David Wagner has just taken over at Norwich and the new boss left Cantwell out for their FA Cup tie so his days appear to be numbered there.

Get moving

The door is wide open for Beale to get his man this month but Rangers should take it as a warning that there has been a formal bid knocked back from elsewhere.

Whether the club are getting everything lined up informally before making it all official or they are biding their time with an offer, nothing is concrete until it is signed so other clubs coming in for Cantwell could jump to the front of the queue at any time.

The fee is sure to be affordable since he is out of favour and surely destined for a free transfer at the end of the season, but that makes him that much more accessible for everyone else as well.

Rangers

A player who made 37 appearances in the English Premier League and scored six goals along the way just three seasons ago, despite being in a struggling side, sounds like the exact sort of player that Rangers want to bring to Ibrox.

But amid a relegation for Norwich and a loan move to Bournemouth in the second tier, the one-time £30million target for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City [The Athletic, 17 February 2020] has lost his way.

Beale has proven adept at revitalising a moribund Rangers squad since his return to the club during the World Cup break, so if he is focused on bringing Cantwell in it could be the perfect environment for the player to kickstart his career again.

He still has age on his side, but if Ibrox is to be his next move the club need to get their business conducted quickly before another side steals in.

In other Rangers news, the key element of the transfer battle with Old Firm rivals Celtic has been laid bare.
