Kieran Maguire: Agreement with SPFL over recent Douglas Park controversy in favour of Rangers

Rangers have reportedly been the beneficiaries in their agreement with the SPFL over the controversy about the cinch sponsorship.

According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, an agreement was reached between the Ibrox giants and the SPFL which saw Rangers exempt from having the cinch logo in the background during interviews and any advertisements at home games.

This happened as chairman Douglas Park’s company Parks Motor Group were seen as a direct competitor to cinch.

Speaking on the Price of Football podcast, Maguire said at 14:22, “My understanding is that an agreement was reached between the SPFL and Rangers. The reason why there was a dispute, the league sponsor cinch and Rangers chairman Douglas Park also has a car company.

“He had a sponsorship arrangement with Rangers. He felt it wasn’t fair because it [cinch advertisements] was taking attention away from his arrangement with the club. They came to an agreement which broadly appeared to be in favour of Rangers which means they do not have to participate.”

Petty

Park was being really petty with this entire controversy and it’s a good thing that it’s behind us now.

It doesn’t really matter whether or not cinch has been advertised as he can do his own promotion on a larger scale than the league sponsors.

Rangers get a bad reputation because of such incidents at the boardroom level when issues are being made out of very little things.

Rather than getting flustered by all this, the board members need to worry about the performances on the field of play and give the manager the tools he needs to succeed.

Michael Beale is a popular figure at Ibrox and he’s got to be backed in the January transfer window with the funds and correct players.

Celtic are running away with the league and in order to stop them a few more players must be added and that needs to be done sooner rather than later.

In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
