Ross Wilson and Michael Beale want to sign Norwich ace Todd Cantwell for Rangers in January – Daily Record

Todd Cantwell is “very much on the list” of Ross Wilson and Michael Beale for a January transfer as Rangers look to bolster their squad.

The Gers are keen to strengthen in the winter window as new manager Beale looks to stamp his own image on the squad at Ibrox after replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst during the World Cup break.

And after admitting that he believes Cantwell is a good player when asked about a potential transfer to bring him across the border from Norwich, the Daily Record report that he is a target for this month.

“Todd Cantwell’s name emerged over the weekend and Record Sport understands he is a name very much on the list of sporting director Ross Wilson and Beale,” they wrote (9 January).

Option

There was a point in time not too long ago that Cantwell was linked with a £30m move to Anfield and Liverpool for his performances in the Premier League with Norwich.

Something seems to have happened behind the scenes at Carrow Road as his performances have fallen off a cliff since their relegation, and he hasn’t been relied upon properly for a while now.

But Cantwell is only 24-years-old and has still got plenty of room for development, and seems like the type of player who needs to be loved to really flourish – which is something he’d feel at Ibrox.

Michael Beale made a point of stating he wants to meet the players that are to sign first to see what they’re like, and he knows Cantwell’s background well. He will know his qualities and character, and with the problems we have had in attack he could be a viable option.

It’s unlikely that Cantwell will cost much, and he would provide a versatile option across the attack. With the future of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos up in the air, it would be a fine signing that would provide a great platform for him to rediscover his quality.
