Rangers to rival Celtic in transfer battle to sign Gue-Sung Cho – Alan Nixon

Rangers have entered the race to sign Jeobuk Hyundai striker Gue-Sung Cho with Celtic also in the hunt, according to Alan Nixon.

The Light Blues are currently thought to be trying harder to bring the South Korean international to the Premiership with Cho himself keen on a move to the UK in January.

A deal to sign the 24-year-old is thought to cost around £3million after scoring 13 goals in 24 matches for the South Korean side in the 2022 K League.

“Cho is a huge star in the social media world too and would be a massive commercial capture as well as a very useful forward on the pitch,” Nixon said via his Patreon.

As it stands, the Old Firm duo are the two clubs firmly in the lead of the race for his signature right now after Cho played for South Korea at the Qatar World Cup in November and December.

Mind games

Even off the pitch, Rangers and Celtic are going toe-to-toe and things are never straightforward in Glasgow when it comes to transfer battles like this.

Cho seems to come with glowing references and the financial possibilities of having a megastar of the social media world, particularly in South Korea is undeniable.

Even if Cho does not end up as the dominant star of the division, as Michael Beale would surely hope he would become if he signs at Ibrox, his commercial value could well fund several signings in the summer as shirts with his name on flock to East Asia.

More to the point, it would be a major scoop to overtake Celtic and win the race to sign the 24-year-old fair and square despite being behind in the Premiership title race right now.

The sooner Ross Wilson can get this done, the better as it will lead to a profitable time for the club both on and off the pitch.

In other Rangers news, no contact has been made in regards to this January deal yet but Beale is certainly an admirer and would like to sign him.
