No sign of new Rangers deal for Ryan Kent as ‘lucrative’ pre-contract options mooted

There is no sign of a new contract being agreed between Rangers and Ryan Kent as he prepares to entertain “lucrative” pre-contract options, say the Glasgow Times.

Kent joined the Ibrox club in 2018 and has had a hugely successful spell at the club, but is now into the final six months of his deal meaning he is able to talk to foreign clubs about joining them in the summer for free.

But while Rangers are hoping to convince him to renew his deal in Glasgow, it’s now said that there is “no sign” of that happening while he can expect to receive lucrative offers on the basis of his career at the club to date.

“Out of contract in the summer and with no sign of signing a new deal, the Englishman is the very definition of a player who’s on the shop window in the January market,” they wrote (9 January).

“He’ll have suitors no matter what after an impressive few years at Ibrox, but should his form improve at the right time, he could have some lucrative pre-contract options.

“If it becomes clear he won’t renew his current deal, Rangers could look to earn some money for him.”

Blow

Manger Michael Beale has made it really clear since coming back to Ibrox that he sees Kent as a key player and someone he wants to build the team around at the club.

The 26-year-old has been moved from out wide to a more central position where he is more involved in the play, and there has been greater importance on his role in the side in build-up.

But despite that, there has been no news about a new contract at the club and there is said to be Premier League interest from south of the border which is something Rangers are unlikely to be able to compete with financially.

It will need to be a big offer to keep him at the club seemingly, but the lure of being a key cog in a side that consistently challenges for titles and plays in Europe could be better than being another attacker in England’s top flight.

It’s going to be a tense few weeks as teams weigh up whether to try and tempt Rangers into making an early sale, but all eyes point towards a late decision either way in the summer.
