Southampton send scout to watch Dundee United v Rangers, Rory MacLeod to be examined – Sky Sports

Southampton are set to send scouts to watch Rangers face Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership as they continue to keep tabs on teenager Rory MacLeod, according to Sky Sports.

The Gers are set to travel to Tannadice Park today, (Sunday 8 January) as they look to claw back at the 12 points deficit to league leaders Celtic following the Old Firm derby.

MacLeod is in line to feature for the Terrors against Michael Beale’s side at just 16 years old and could face up against the likes of John Lundstram, who is 12 years his senior.

The Sky Sports report said: “Southampton are also interested in Dundee United youngster Rory MacLeod as one for the future and have sent a scout to Tannadice to watch the 16-year-old face Rangers on Sunday.

“Newcastle are also keen on the forward.”

Tough test

At just 16 years old, and after already featuring for Dundee United’s first team, there is a lot to like about MacLeod.

He recently came off the bench for Liam Fox’s side in the 3-0 win against Ross County and has left chins wagging as the January transfer window enters its second week.

In Rangers, though, he will face a side bang in form since the arrival of Beale as manager. Barring the 2-2 draw against Celtic, the Englishman has overseen an immaculate start to life at Ibrox and will look to make it five wins from his first six games against United on Sunday.

If MacLeod is to impress the Saints scouts, he will have to be clever about his work. Both Connor Goldson and Ben Davies have been brilliant since their return from the sidelines and have managed to keep two clean sheets from the three games they have started together since the World Cup break.

In other Rangers news, a pundit rages over a ‘disrespectful’ Gers ace who is inconsiderate of his Ibrox teammates behind the scenes.
