Sunderland in talks to extend Ross Stewart stay, Rangers want £10m striker
Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman insists they are confident of keeping Ross Stewart despite interest from Rangers.
The Scottish striker has been in fine form for the Black Cats this season but his contract at the Stadium of Light is up at the end of the current season.
Stewart, who Dean Jones believes would cost roughly £10million to prize away in January despite his contract situation, could yet stay on Wearside with Speakman revealing talks are ongoing.

“We are really dedicated and being proactive to try and get Ross to sign a new contract, everyone is geared up to make that happen and feel that’s the right outcome,” Speakman said, as quoted by Football Scotland.
“From our perspective, we feel really comfortable with our position but we also want to try and make sure that when we have high-profile players like Ross, we tie them down for the appropriate amount of time.”
Bigger issues
The January transfer window should really be all about fixing the issues in the squad right now and striker is not somewhere that needs immediate attention at Ibrox.
As it stands, Alfredo Morelos is sticking around until the end of the season, at least, and Antonio Colak is signed up for a few years yet with Kemar Roofe backing that duo up.

Michael Beale has enough at the top end of the pitch to not worry about having to sign somebody right now and especially not for £10million when Stewart will be free in the summer as it sits right now.
It might be a point of concern in the summer but right now, Rangers need to try and add depth in other areas of their squad such as full-back, in goal and maybe even out wide.
The Light Blues have to let Sunderland try and extend his Stadium of Light stay and if he decides not to, then they can pounce in the summer when they have no say on the matter.
In other Rangers news, one Ibrox favourite is nearing a return to action but his relative has asked fans to be patient as he tries to rediscover his best form.
