BBC journalist Tom English shares IFAB law after controversy in Rangers v Celtic
Tom English has shared the justification for not handing Celtic a penalty in their 2-2 draw in the Old Firm derby against Rangers on 2 January.
Connor Goldson’s appeared in the spotlight as the ball struck his arm but the penalty wasn’t given to the league leaders.
As per the laws, it was the right decision and the referees and VAR got it spot on.
English wrote on Twitter, “Is this why the more contentious Connor Goldson handball wasn’t given as a penalty? John Beaton should have been sent over for a look regardless.
“Does anybody actually know what’s going on with handball at this point? Laws are interpreted/applied differently from game to game.”
Move on
The Celtic crazy BBC is constantly talking about Goldson and Rangers being lucky to come away with a point from this one.
The fact of the matter is that Rangers dominated the Old Firm and deserved to take the three points and get back into the title race.
It’s ridiculous how they’re seeing laws being applied to T but still having a problem with the outcome as that’s just bizarre.
Hopefully, Rangers go on to pick up some crucial wins on the spin and Celtic drop points as that’s needed for number 56 at Ibrox.
There’s still a long way to go and a January window too so things will certainly change and we’re not writing off Michael Beale or his side.
This is a fight to the finish and we’re backing the boys to get the job done but even they know that they’re going to require luck to be on their side if they are to get the job done.
In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
