Journalist fumes at Rangers trio John Lundstram, Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier after what they did v Celtic

Journalist Jonny McFarlane blasted Rangers trio John Lundstram, Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier for their role in Celtic’s opening goal in the Old Firm derby.

The Gers fell behind after just four minutes when Morelos played a wayward cross-field pass that got intercepted, before Tavernier misjudged a back pass that allowed Maeda to sneak in and slot past McGregor.

It all stemmed from Lundstram losing a battle on the halfway line, and the journalist took to his personal Twitter account (2 January) to blast the trio and claimed Michael Beale would be “furious” with them.

“The defending there was utterly abysmal,” he wrote.

“Lundstram loses 50/50. Morelos with a hospital pass. Tavernier fails to win his duel. Beale will be furious.”

Not good enough

If you can’t get up for an Old Firm derby then you’re at the wrong club, and it was really worrying seeing three of the most senior players at the club start the game in that way.

Lundstram was unlucky not to win the duel as the ricochet just went against him, but Morelos playing a blind pass across the pitch that way is just lazy and poor, while Tavernier looked as though he backed out of the challenge to not get hurt.

Rangers

It allowed Maeda a really easy chance and gave Rangers a huge mountain to climb so early on against a team that are flying when it comes to momentum.

Thankfully we managed to turn it around with Kent turning in a great performance in the second half including a goal, and the team picked up a point, but they’ll be gutted at losing the lead so late on.

The title race is still on, although it looks very unlikely at this point, but we have proven that we are capable of hanging with the so-called best team ever even when we’re at our worst.
