Ross Stewart on his way to Ibrox – Three transfers Rangers could finalise in January
Rangers have already been linked with a number of different players in the lead-up to the January transfer window as Michael Beale looks to reshape his squad.
The Light Blues boss has previously suggested (quoted by Joshua Barrie, 30 December) that if players do come through the door at Ibrox, they’re coming in to start.
There are certainly some areas of the Gers’ squad which need improving and here Ibrox News takes a look at three realistic targets who could move to the Glasgow giants.

Ross Stewart
Ross Stewart is a name which has been continually linked to the Gers, with the Sunderland striker in good form for the Black Cats and out of contract in the summer.
Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reported (via Twitter, 29 December) that Stewart has reached an impasse with Sunderland over a new deal, with The Sun suggesting the Black Cats are looking to triple his current £3,300-a-week wages. However, it’s understood an agreement is still a long way off despite the 26-year-old being eager to stay at the Stadium of Light.

It’s believed Middlesbrough have shown the strongest interest in the Scotland international, with there also being a host of Premier League and Championship clubs interested. Stewart is clearly a man in demand, but with Alfredo Morelos’ future very much in doubt, it would not be a surprise to see Beale firm up his interest in the Sunderland forward. He would also come in and make an immediate impact for the Gers.
Furthermore, the chance to play for the biggest club in his own country could be too bigger an opportunity to pass up for Stewart. This is definitely one to keep an eye on.
James Trafford
It’s not a surprise to see Rangers linked with a goalkeeper. Allan McGregor is nailed-on to be playing in his final season with the Gers and it’s clear he will need to be replaced come the end of the season. The Daily Mail has revealed (30 December) the Light Blues are interested in Manchester City’s James Trafford, who is currently on loan at Bolton Wanderers.

The 20-year-old has impressed during his time with the League One side and he’s at an age where he could be a long-term addition at Ibrox. With the January window now open, the Ibrox faithful should be keeping a keen eye on whether Manchester City choose to recall Trafford in the coming weeks.
Keanu Baccus
The Australian international featured for his country at the World Cup in Qatar and has enjoyed an excellent start to the 2022/23 season with St Mirren.
The Scottish Sun suggest Rangers have been keeping a keen eye on the 24-year-old, with St Mirren happy to cash in on their star man. He fits the bill as the type of player Beale will be looking to bring to the club.

Baccus is still relatively young and is ready to make an immediate impact should he make the move to Ibrox. Furthermore, the centre of midfield certainly needs an injection of youth, with Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield both entering the latter stages of their careers.
In other Rangers news, a £5million twist has emerged in Southampton’s bid to sign Ryan Kent.
