Rangers transfers at play as Ryan Kent contract news emerges at Ibrox

Rangers are entering a “key phase” in talks with Ryan Kent about a new contract at Ibrox, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The winger is currently set to see his contract at the club expire at the end of the season, but new manager Michael Beale wants him to re-sign and extend his stay for several more years.

But as talks continue, journalist Jones believes there has to be a limit to what they can offer him and feels that transfer plans in January and the summer could have a say on whether he signs or not.

“I think we’re entering a key phase here with him,” he said, speaking to GiveMeSport (30 December).

“Rangers will seek to satisfy him, but they can’t just pay him whatever he wants. There’s got to be some limit to this.

“I think there needs to be a plan for him that fits in with the future vision of where Rangers are heading, and also the type of player that they’re looking to recruit both in January and in the summer, when they might have a bit of a bigger rebuild.”

Re-sign

We need Kent to re-sign and extend his stay at Ibrox, but only if he wants to be here and if the deal makes sense for us.

When he’s on form he’s easily one of the best players in the country, and has won us countless games with his excellent dribbling and electric pace.

But as we’ve seen this season, when his head is elsewhere he’s largely useless and his profile makes him relatively undroppable which gives us big problems on the pitch.

However we’d be silly to let him leave for free, because he’s such a talent. Everything should be done to convince him, but it does have to be on our terms.

A decision needs to be made quickly too, because this coming transfer window is the final chance we have of selling him and bringing in some cash rather than losing him for nothing, so it has to be considered at the very least.
