Borna Barisic given nightmares ahead of Rangers v Celtic in Old Firm news – Chris Sutton

Chris Sutton believes that Rangers defender Borna Barisic will be having nightmares over Celtic winger Liel Abada ahead of the Old Firm clash on January 2.

Barisic made his return to the Gers starting XI on December 28 against Motherwell after reaching the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup with Croatia.

Sutton confessed that Abada has caused mayhem for Rangers and due to him being a proven goalscorer in the fixture, poses a big problem for Barisic.

“Liel Abada has caused mayhem for Rangers,” said Sutton as quoted by the Daily Record.

“He must have given Borna Barisic nightmares and he’s a proven scorer in this particular fixture. He’d be unlucky to miss out. Sead Haksabanovic has been missing recently with an injury, but Jota is a matchwinner.”

Class-act.

Adam Devine has been wonderful during the absence of Barisic, but the Croatian proved again with his comeback to the first team that a natural left-footer is needed in the left-back position.

The Croat provided a pin-point cross for forward Alfredo Morelos against Motherwell, one the forward gulped up and finished off nicely.

This kind of cross couldn’t have been pulled off by Devine and for all the youngsters’ solid efforts, Barisic will likely be the preferred man to start in the Old Firm.

Experience is key in the clash against Celtic and Barisic will need to bring with him every ounce he has in the January 2 clash.

However, Barisic hasn’t been great in his last two meetings with Celtic, putting in a woeful performance in the club’s 4-0 defeat in the last campaign.

Is a redemption story in the works? After his performance against Motherwell the Croatian could be on course to put his Celtic demons finally to bed.
