Michael Beale drops major new Rangers transfer update for January

Michael Beale has admitted that Rangers need to sign players for their starting lineup during the January transfer window, rather than squad players.

The Gers signed seven first-team players in the summer, but struggled in the first-half of the season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and find themselves nine points behind Celtic and already eliminated from the Champions League.

Now Beale is in charge and is keen to bring in some of his own players for the squad, but admits they must be ready to go straight into the lineup rather than be members of the squad.

“If someone is coming into the building you should view it that they’re coming into start,” he said, as quoted by journalist Joshua Barrie in his pre-match press conference (30 December).

“If they’re not and they are for later on I will be honest about it. We don’t need more squad players, we need players to improve the starting 11…”

Definitely

We’ve finally got a manager in charge who is being open and honest about the state of the squad and wants to do something about it.

Van Bronckhorst brought in the vast majority of players and was happy to rotate through them and bounce along picking up results against teams we were supposed to get results against.

Rangers

However Beale wants to have a stronger lineup and that would make some starters now good squad options, making the overall depth and quality of the strong even better.

It’s exactly what we need and it’s great to hear publicly, because for too long the club have tried to do things quietly and just left everyone wondering if there is actually a plan or not.

It’s clear that there is, and we now know that any potential incomings will be for the starting roles, meaning we know that Beale thinks they’re better than our current options.
